A Catholic church teacher in the UK says he’s “so embarrassed” by a church class teaching about gay sex

Story

A Catholic teacher at a Church of England school in Manchester says he is “so ashamed” by the school’s teaching on homosexuality.

Father John Stirling, who was recently promoted to the rank of priest, says he has received death threats since his class on homosexuality was released last month.

“I’ve received death and rape threats from people who say I’m gay, who think I’m a paedophile,” he said.

The class was part of the school year, which began last month, and has since been taken down.

“We have had a number of people send us messages saying ‘you’re a paedo, I don’t like it’.”

The school has apologised to the father and father of the boy who was involved in the class, but he said the issue had nothing to do with his sexuality.

“They said that they thought that this is a positive message to help them cope,” he told the Irish Times.

The school declined to comment when contacted by The Irish Press.”

If I have to teach my children that this will not be accepted by the church, I can’t do that.”

The school declined to comment when contacted by The Irish Press.

The father of a boy who attended the class has been told he has been made to apologise to the school.

Father Stirling says he had hoped the class would teach people about how to deal with homosexuality, but has since received death threat and rape threat emails from people “who thought I was a paedophobe”.

“They say that I’m doing a good job and I’m teaching about a religion which is against homosexuality,” he added.

The teacher said he had been told the teaching would be removed when it was completed.

“In the end it was taken down as soon as it was released,” he explained.

The Irish Times has contacted the Church of Ireland for comment.
